Abiola Diana Makinde (b. Miami, 2000) is a Nigerian-Trinidadian-American scholar, industrial designer, design engineer, and cultural producer whose works span across the disciplines of smart technologies and craft items that apply to everyday life. Abiola earned her BFA Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and MS Engineering Design & Innovation from Northwestern University. She is a Fulbright-Nehru Open Research award recipient and GEM fellowship recipient.
Makinde is Pricipal at Ise Owo Design Studio — a handcrafted homeware studio with materiality and heritage motifs at the center of illuminating the experience that is gathering. She is currently developing the Ijoko Ore collection — a walnut series dedicated to the bond between sisters.
